This study investigates the impact of the use of graphite coatings on sand molds in the casting process, specifically focusing on the occurrence of blow-hole defects in cast products. This study highlights the importance of the use of graphic coatings in sand molds in metal castings. Test the chemical composition that affects its properties and the quality of the final casting. For this testing process, it uses an Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) for accurate chemical analysis, ensuring that the composition of the metal meets the required standards for optimal performance. The findings suggest that defects such as blow-holes, caused by trapped air or gases in the mold, can be reduced through the proper application of the graphite layer. Factors that contribute to the formation of blow-hole defects include low sand permeability, high moisture content, slow pouring rate, and fineness of the sand grains. This research aims to provide insights for the industry, especially PT Kartika Alas Utama, to improve their casting process and improve product quality by optimizing the use of graphite coatings. Overall, this research serves as a valuable resource for understanding the relationship between mold preparation and defect reduction in metal casting.
